Michael recently wrote about the Cubs’ dramatic leap in TV viewership this year over last in the first half of the season, and the important TV-deal-related implications. No team has seen a larger rise in viewership, and the Cubs’ increase seems to be growing even more:

Not only is that a huge rating for what proved to be a fun game, but it continues an important trend as the Cubs look to lock down their next big-time TV rights contract, a process that is ongoing as we speak. The Cubs’ current deals run through 2019, but it’s important that the next deal is set up well in advance. Huge ratings last year and further increasing this year will only help that process.
The Cubs are popular.
