Early on, it looked like it could be a laugher for the Cubs, who got a leadoff homer from Dexter Fowler, and had knocked Jaime Garcia out before the second inning even ended. From there, the Cubs made Alex Reyes work, but couldn’t cash in on any of their many opportunities.
Jason Hammel had some nasty stuff working tonight, but a couple misses turned into two-run homers for the Cardinals, and that was the difference in the game. Mistake pitches happen every night by every pitcher, and they don’t always turn into bombs. Tonight, two prominent ones did, and it unfortunately sullied an otherwise solid performance by a guy who hasn’t had a lot of them lately. [adinserter block=”1″][adinserter block=”10″]
Cubs lose. No clinching the NL Central in St. Louis. So, then, it’ll happen at Wrigley Field in front of the home crowd. That’s not a bad thing.
