The Chicago White Sox Have Broken The World Attendance Record … For Dogs

For as much fun as they’re having on the North Side of Chicago this summer, the South-Siding White Sox can’t exactly call 2016 their year. At 70-74, the Sox are four games below .500, and thirteen games out of first place in the NL Central.

Whatever the future holds for them, it’s not a championship come October.

That said, teams can still be very popular even when they’re not doing too well. And the White Sox, it seems, have become one of those teams. In fact, the White Sox just broken the heavily sought-after Guiness World Record for Attendance at a Sporting Event … for dogs.

While the White Sox needed only 1,000 K-9s to break the record, the team announced (via CSN Chicago) that as many as 1,122 dogs made their way into the stadium (simultaneously breaking the actual attendance record too!). And, I’m not exaggerating or kidding in any way, this is officially official. I mean look at their “Officially Amazing” certificate.

Everyone knows that certificates are cool.

White Sox outfielder Adam Eaton claims he had “Who Let the Dogs Out?” stuck in his head (who doesn’t?) throughout the night, while infielder Tyler Saladino said it was pretty loud, but plenty of fun. Mostly, I think, it was just a bit strange, but hey just keep doing you, South Side, and don’t let anyone tell you differently.
