After his at-bat in the top of the fifth inning yesterday, David Ortiz looked at a fan in the crowd of Camden Yards and started laughing, using his hands to show how close he was to hitting a home run in the previous at-bat.
But that fan was apparently not a supporter of Ortiz or the Red Sox, no. Instead, he was an Orioles fan chirping at Ortiz from (his very safe location in) the stands. But it was all in good fun, Ortiz mentioned after the game, especially considering what he did in his very next at-bat:
In his very next at bat, David Ortiz sent a three run homer (his 36th of the season) way out to center field, breaking the game open for the Red Sox. More importantly, I’d argue, he made sure to let the the heckling fan know that it was all for and because of him. Hey, I would too after crushing a 408 foot, 105 MPH blast to straight away center field.
Remind me never to taunt Mr. Ortiz.
