More night baseball for the Chicago Cubs, and another game against the defending American League champion Cleveland Indians.
Here’s the Cubs’ lineup:
- Kyle Schwarber, RF
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Javy Baez, 2B
- Willson Contreras, C
- Ian Happ, LF
- Albert Almora Jr. CF
- Jon Lester, P
- Chesny Young, SS

Addison Russell and Ben Zobrist are still out, but the lineup is otherwise very star-studded.
Kyle Schwarber gets a little more work in right field, which is not just a matter of versatility, but is specific to some ballparks where Joe Maddon has said he might utilize Schwarber out there (PNC, for one example, has a much smaller and easier right field than left field).
Ian Happ takes left field in this one, as he’s mostly worked at second base so far this Spring. I don’t want to read too much into it, but Chesny Young sure has seen a lot of time with the big league club this Spring, which does make you wonder where he stands in the pecking order if the team needed to reach into its upper minors depth to plug a hole in the infield. The outfield is loaded, whereas the middle infield might be mostly Munenori Kawasaki, in terms of obvious big-league-ready depth at AAA. In that respect, it wouldn’t surprise me if the Cubs wanted to make sure Young was ready, just in case.
We’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ closer to game time.
