The Chicago Cubs are looking to win their second straight series to open the 2017 season, and in the same fashion as the first series: walk-off loss, win, win.
Jake Arrieta takes the ball for start number two, and although he was very good against the Cardinals, you can bet that everyone will be watching the radar guns closely.
As I said in that post, it’s hard to know what that first set of data really meant, if anything at all. So, we’ll get some more information today – though I’d still caution you against overreacting in either direction based on today. This is something to watch over a longer stretch.

Opposing Arrieta and the Cubs is righty Zack Davies, whom some pegged in the offseason as a possible command-control breakout type. That command-control combo wasn’t there in his first start of the year against the Rockies, in which he allowed six runs on nine hits and four walks.
As I mentioned in the lineup discussion, the Cubs have loaded up on lefties, who fared about 10% better against Davies last year than righties, for what it’s worth.
