The bats, collectively, remain in a vicious slump, the depths of which cannot be avoided even against pitching that has otherwise been woefully ineffective this year. The Cubs’ lineup must look like a juicy steak right now.
Jake Arrieta didn’t pitch badly in this one, so I guess there’s that. Until the offense does anything at all, these kinds of outings will just continue to be wasted, though.
Enjoy your off-day tomorrow. It’s going to be miserable. You will think things like, “Well, this is finally the low point.” And then you’ll remember, and fear in your heart, that it can always get worse.
