Top Cubs Prospect Eloy Jimenez Shows Off What “Easy Power” Looks Like (VIDEO)

Chicago Cubs

Eloy Jimenez is a monster.

That’s the kind of affectionate term reserved – in my nomenclature, at least – for only the most physically-impressive, baseball-apt “big guys” around the game. The huge dudes who just hit the ball so freaking hard.

And that’s what I think of when I think about the Cubs’ top prospect, Eloy Jimenez: he just hits the ball so freaking hard.

Because of that ability, paired with his large frame, Jimenez often shows off such easy power. Even on the rare occasions that it doesn’t look like he really crushed one, as long as he gets some elevation, the ball can go a long way.

That’s what it was last night, when he sent one out the other way:

That’s a great swing to barrel the pitch where it was, but it certainly didn’t look like he got all of that ball *and* it was the other way. Still, it comfortably left the ballpark.

Eloy Jimenez is a monster.

The oppo shot was Jimenez’s 5th homer of the year in just 20 games, an obviously torrid pace. But it’s not as if Jimenez is only hitting homers.

The homer came as part of a three-hit game, improving his line at High-A to .313/.425/.567, and he’s walked (12) as much as he’s struck out (12). The 20-year-old outfielder is laying waste to the pitching of the Carolina league, and it’s not hard to see that he could be at AA before the year is up.
