The All-Star Futures Game is essentially the All-Star Game for prospects, and it takes place as part of the All-Star weekend. It is a lot of fun to see youngsters fans have been dreaming on for years play against each other in a national competition.
In this year’s installment, the Chicago Cubs’ top prospect, Eloy Jimenez, will be representing the World Team, and he’ll be the the only Cubs prospect on the roster. Jimenez, just 20, is playing in his first season at High-A, and is hitting .268/.357/.496 on the season. Maybe he’ll break a stadium light or two during batting practice.
Victor Caratini was set to be in the game as well, but his recent promotion to the big league team took him out of the mix. You can still count it as a feather in his cap.
The full rosters are here for your enjoyment, with 26 of MLB Pipeline’s top 100 prospects involved.
Last year, Jimenez starred in the game on both sides of the ball, raking at the plate, making an incredible, over-the-wall catch, and sending a bomb way out of the park.
Re-live the Eloy fun from last year:
