All the runs. Does this mean the Cubs will score only a run or two tomorrow?
I kid. I kid. Probably.
That couldn’t have gone much better, especially after Rhys Hoskins homered AGAIN in the first inning, putting the Cubs in an early 2-0 hole.
Kyle Hendricks was fantastic tonight, commanding his pitches near perfectly, and getting fantastic movement on his two-seamer. Sure, the Phillies’ lineup is not especially strong right now, but seven innings with the only damage coming on a homer (on a changeup out of the strike zone low) by a guy who has hit 10 in his last 17 games? Dude. Great game.
And that’s not even considering the fact that he singled and doubled, scoring a run and driving in another couple … IN THE SAME INNING. Last time that happened was 2003 by Carlos Zambrano, for the record.
The Cubs got TWO two-home-run games in this one, from Anthony Rizzo (sure) and Tommy La Stella (huh?). Kris Bryant and Ben Zobrist also homered, and Alex Avila missed a grand slam by about one foot (settling instead for a double).
It was a total blowout in every sense, as the Cubs rebounded from a couple bad losses and turned in their 69th win of the season.
