While poking around the baseball subreddit today, I noticed an interesting TIL (Today I Learned) fact that the famous stretch song, “Take Me Out to the Ball Game,” has a first and second verse, and they’re both awesome:
Verse 1
Katie Casey was baseball mad,
Had the fever and had it bad.
Just to root for the home town crew,
Ev’ry sou1
Katie blew.
On a Saturday her young beau
Called to see if she’d like to go
To see a show, but Miss Kate said “No,
I’ll tell you what you can do:
Chorus:Â Take Me Out to the Ball Game …Â
So, basically, Katie is one big-time baseball fan and she’d only go on a date with her “beau” if he took her to a game. Not bad, Katie. That’s a pretty smart move, right there. In any case, after the chorus part (you know the one), there’s yet another, final verse along the same lines (i.e. that Katie is my soulmate):
Verse 2
Katie Casey saw all the games,
Knew the players by their first names.
Told the umpire he was wrong,
All along,
Good and strong.
When the score was just two to two,
Katie Casey knew what to do,
Just to cheer up the boys she knew,
She made the gang sing this song:
Take Me Out to the Ball Game …Â
Well, there you have it. I never knew.
