The Cubs kept Adbert Alzolay (No. 3 on the Top 40) in extended spring training for just a few extra weeks, and last night he made his debut. It was a memorable one.
Alzolay took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and struck out six. He was perfect the first time through the order. In the end, he allowed a run on two hits and two walks before handing the game to the bullpen, which proceeded to throw three innings of one hit ball.
Had to leave the @iowacubs game early because had to work for MLB, but here's some sweet Adbert Alzolay photos from tonight! pic.twitter.com/DmgER7mr23

And a little video from Alzolay’s outing:

[Brett: My dude got some LIFE on that fastball.]
A lot of the Cubs best pitching prospects have gotten off to slow starts this year, so it is good to see Alzolay take off right away. It is also good to see some of those other starters start to produce good starts of their own. Oscar De La Cruz looked very good the night before, and overshadowed by Alzolay yesterday was a very good Bryan Hudson start in Myrtle Beach.
