The Chicago Cubs are back at Wrigley Field tonight, and although Kris Bryant isn’t in the lineup, he is reportedly taking batting practice, which is a really good sign.
As we discussed earlier, Tommy La Stella will take his place at third base, as part of many lineup changes, including Willson Contreras getting a breather behind the plate. Meanwhile Kyle Schwarber is moving way up and Javy Baez is “down” to third.
Kyle Hendricks will be looking to get his season cooking, because until now he’s been pretty mediocre (though he did strike out six and walk none his last time out). He’ll face a lineup without a hot Eric Thames, but with plenty of fire power up top.
Starting opposite Hendricks is Brewers righty Chase Anderson. Anderson, like so many other right-handers the Cubs have seen this season, has fairly extreme reverse splits for his career. Hopefully, then, guys like Albert Almora and Javy Baez can do some damage in Bryant’s absence.
I’ll be at this one tonight, so I’ll see you there.
