OMG THE RUN-UP TO THE TRADE DEADLINE IS CA-RAZY!!!
With Cole Hamels officially joining the team this weekend, the Cubs had to actually add him to the roster. Although his 40-man spot came from Eddie Butler, who was traded in the deal with the Rangers, the Cubs took advantage of the days in between the trade and Hamels’ arrival to add an extra reliever – first Alec Mills, and then Cory Mazzoni.
Mills was sent back down yesterday, and now it’s Mazzoni:
The #Cubs today added LHP Cole Hamels to the active 25-man roster. RHP Cory Mazzoni has been optioned to @IowaCubs.

Mazzoni pitched a perfect, two-strikeout inning yesterday, and thanks to tiny sample sizes, he went from 7.2 innings of great results and bad peripherals on the year, to 8.2 innings of stellar results and not-too-shabby peripherals!
