You know, it’s funny. When I drafted Kyle Hendricks and Jose Quintana in my fantasy baseball draft at the beginning of the year, I thought I was straight up stealing top of the rotation (not aces, but top of the rotation nonetheless) starters in relatively late rounds. But so far, both have struggled significantly.
Yesterday, Quintana let the game get out of hand almost immediately, so today Hendricks is tasked with salvaging this two-game series. It won’t save my fantasy season, but the Cubs still have time!
With all of that said, Hendricks has actually been pretty good lately. His last time out was a two-run, 6.0 IP start against the Nationals, featuring a continued trend of walking nobody and striking out plenty. Indeed, since the start of July, Hendricks has walked just five batters while striking out 45 in 46.2 IP. That’s really, really good. He’s also managed contact quite well during this stretch and is even getting grounders at a more familiar rate (47.0%). As a matter of fact … fingers crossed … this looks like an entirely different Hendricks – at least compared to the beginning of the season.
Here’s hoping it continues long enough for the Cubs to win today.
