The Chicago Cubs did, indeed, win a game last night so I can confirm it’s still possible. Whew. I was worried there for a second. Here’s the group for the finale in Milwaukee.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:Â
- Ben Zobrist, RF
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Javy Baez, SS
- Kyle Schwarber, LF
- Willson Contreras, C
- Daniel Descalso, 2B
- Jason Heyward, CF
- Kyle Hendricks, P
After the game he had yesterday (3-3, 2HR, 2BBs), there was no way Jason Heyward wasn’t getting the nod in this one, and with the righty, Zach Davies, on the mound, covering center field for Albert Almora made the most sense.
Davies, not unlike Burnes, is a lot tougher on right-handed hitters, even though he strikes fewer righties out. Right-handed batters just can’t seem to elevate off him, so loading the lineup with lefties (Ben Zobrist, Anthony Rizzo, Kyle Schwarber, Daniel Descalso, Jason Heyward) was wise. With Heyward in center, that leaves right field open for Zobrist. And, yes, that means another start for Daniel Descalso, who’s got 8 hits (2B, HR) and 3 walks through just 23 plate appearances this season: .400/.478/.600. That’s totally sustainable and he’s obviously on pace to be the MVP.
Other than that, Willson Contreras returns behind the plate after Victor Caratini’s big game last night and everything else is pretty standard. As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ closer to game time (1:10 CT).
Also, a heads up:
