Absent a surprising and completely un-forecasted turn of the weather, Tyler Chatwood will be making his first start of the 2019 regular season later this afternoon. Fortunately for him, the Diamondbacks aren’t the toughest lineup in the world *and* most of their success has come primarily against left-handers (126 wRC+) as opposed to righties like Chatwood (100 wRC+).
Obviously the key to his game will be whether or not he can keep it in the strike zone. And if he can, I’d wager we’re in store for a good outing (though, query how long of a leash he’ll have today, regardless of how well he performs, given that he’s pitched exclusively out of the bullpen since stretching out as a starter in Spring Training). Indeed, that’s likely why he’s batting eighth tonight – so Joe Maddon can pull him sooner than later.
It’s Easter – so Happy Easter to those of you celebrating and to everyone: GO CUBS.
