Jose Quintana’s most recent start lasted only 5.0 innings, but it wasn’t all that terrible. In Los Angeles, the Dodgers managed to score only 2 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks against 3 strikeouts. You’ll take that, given the circumstances. But hopefully now that he’s home, he’ll have a bit more success.
For what it’s worth, though, the Mets (117 wRC+, 6th) are actually one of the best offensive teams in baseball against southpaws – two spots ahead of the Dodgers (113, 8th).
Zach Wheeler has made 15 starts this season, 12 of which have been 6.0 innings or longer, 8 of which have been 7.0 innings or longer. His 4.94 ERA isn’t exactly intimidating, but that sort of longevity most be born out of something (and his 3.84 FIP clearly shows there’s something under the surface, as well). As we discussed earlier, he’s been effectively split neutral this season, but favors lefties overall for his career.
Let’s see if the Cubs have enough to get to him and can guarantee themselves at least a series split.
