Were there no other context, this morning’s wee hours loss to the Giants would be a pretty easy one to stomach.
The Cubs went down early as Yu Darvish struggled a bit to find it, and then he righted himself into a decent six-inning outing. The Cubs came back late to tie it up. The bullpen threw six+ innings of one-run ball. The Giants got a walk-off homer that got out of the park by an inch. Shrug. Sometimes you lose games, and that one doesn’t feel too bad.
… except there *IS* more context than that, and it includes the Cubs’ continued – and borderline bizarre at this point – total inability to win games on the road. The loss means they won’t have won a series on the road in their last EIGHT tries. To be so close to winning the last two nights and lose both really stings.
The deficiencies on the offensive side were also on display, as only a certain small handful of guys did all the heavy lifting, and the Cubs still can’t hit lefties for poo.
