I wouldn’t say I’m on pins and needles necessarily, but I am kinda excitedly waiting to see if we get a manager announcement today. With the World Series kicking off tomorrow night, and with MLB preferring that major announcements don’t come at the same time as the Series, today is a pretty good day for teams to make these managerial announcements. If not today, then maybe Thursday’s off-day.
For the Cubs, it’s possible they’re already down to David Ross and Astros bench coach Joe Espada, whom they had in for a second interview yesterday.
The questions now: do they have enough info to make a choice? Do they still want to interview someone else (Yankees bench coach Josh Bard has been my best guess, if there is still someone)? If they’ve made a choice, are contract negotiations underway? You wouldn’t think that would hold anything up, given that you’re talking about rookie managers, and the range of expected contracts is pretty small, but both Ross and Espada are considered very desirable rookie manager candidates.

If the cubs decide to go with Espada, look for Ross to possibly join Maddon with the Angels.
