The Cubs are in Cincinnati tonight for their first of four weekday games, and this one is not going to start on time thanks to inclement weather in the area. We’ll update when there’s a start time. UPDATE: Aiming for 7:25pm CT.
Jon Lester gets the ball for the Cubs in Game 1, making his 2020 regular season debut after a rough overall 2019 campaign. Of course, with just 60 regular season games on the schedule, I think we’re all hoping he can get hot and stay hot for just long enough to carry his spot in the rotation. As for tonight, specifically, you should expect no more than 80-85 pitches out of big Jon (that according to pitching coach Tommy Hottovy over the weekend), so hopefully he can stretch that out over 5-6 innings.
He’ll be opposed by a soft-tossing left-hander, Wade Miley, which is the sort of pitcher that has totally, never, not-even-once given the Cubs grief.
How about we string together a couple of Ws, eh?
