Although the Cubs have yet to have any COVID-related postponements, that’s not the only reason you might have to schedule a doubleheader in 2020. There’s also the good old fashioned rainout.
So it was in the would-have-been series finale last week in Cincinnati, and now that game has been rescheduled as part of a doubleheader on August 29. It’ll be the Cubs’ first taste of the 7-inning doubleheader format if the don’t have one sooner.

Rosters will be down to 28 by then, though I believe you’ll still get an extra player for the day of a doubleheader. We’ll see if the Cubs bring up a fill-in starting pitcher, or just try to make do with a starter and a bullpen game. It’s only seven innings per game, after all.
