Jon Lester is just always ready. Big game? Huge playoff start? A random game in a weird pandemic season after a surprising four-day layoff? He is always ready.
For the third straight start, Lester played the contact game, mostly managing the hard stuff and letting his defense do the work behind him. The Indians made a little louder contact than in Lester’s last two starts, but so much of it was on the ground that the damage was minimal. Ultimately, Lester allowed just three hits and two walks (one earned run) over his six innings of work. Ryan Tepera and Colin Rea (who hit 96 mph!) finished things off to preserve the win.
Jason Heyward brought the big bat in this one, driving in four on his three hits, including a three-run homer. All night the Cubs were working really good at bats, whether the results showed it or not.
