We’ve got a new top Cubs prospect list to digest, as the MLB Pipeline crew has updated their Cubs top 30 after IFA signings, trades, and instructional ball. For the Cubs, that means a pretty darn significant update, since a lot has changed on those fronts since the end of last season.
The new list, plus scouting reports for all 30 prospects is right here, so it makes for a very nice afternoon read. A whole lot jumps out at me, including new IFA signing Cristian Hernandez slotting in ahead of first rounder Ed Howard, helium guy Yohendrick Pinango getting way up there, Kevin Made being the “next shortstop” after Hernandez-Howard-Preciado, and Keegan Thompson being the “next pitcher” after Franklin-Alzolay-Jensen.
The list:
1. Brailyn Marquez, LHP
2. Brennen Davis, OF
3. Miguel Amaya, C
4. Cristian Hernandez, SS
5. Ed Howard, SS
6. Kohl Franklin, RHP
7. Adbert Alzolay, RHP
8. Christopher Morel, 3B
9. Ryan Jensen, RHP
10. Chase Strumpf, 2B
11. Reggie Preciado, SS
12. Owen Caissie, OF
13. Cole Roederer, OF
14. Yohendrick Pinango, OF
15. Keegan Thompson, RHP
16. Cory Abbott, RHP
17. Riley Thompson, RHP
18. Burl Carraway, LHP
19. Kevin Made, SS
20. Yeison Santana, SS
21. Rafael Morel, SS
22. Chris Clarke, RHP
23. Ethan Hearn, C
24. Ronnier Quintero, C
25. Ismael Mena, OF
26. Luis Verdugo, SS
27. Michael McAvene, RHP
28. Jordan Nwogu, OF
29. D.J. Herz, LHP
30. Brendon Little, LHP
Seven young shortstops in the top 26, so that’s pretty darn cool. Really interesting to see which pitchers show up at the back-end here, as all are guys who have gotten a little extra attention this offseason, but whom we haven’t seen much of in a long time.
Our new @Cubs Top 30 Prospects list is out! I'll chat about it today at 3 pm CT/4 pm ET. You can start sending in questions now, and please use the #Top30Prospects hashtag when you do.
