Kris Bryant “wasn’t even supposed to be here today.” He was out of the lineup after being pulled yesterday due to sickness, and he was sitting again for that reason.
But the under-the-weather Cubs slugger stepped into a huge moment in the 7th, with two outs and runners on the corners, and pinch-hit for David Bote. The problem is that the third pitch of the plate appearance went up and in and smoked Bryant on what appeared to be the wrist.
The trainer came out, and Bryant left the game rather than taking his base. It’s possible that was always going to be the plan regardless of the outcome, since he was sick, but who knows. We’ll update you when there’s more. Hopefully he wasn’t hurt.
UPDATE (Michael): Good news, Kris Bryant does have a bruise for his trouble, but he is feeling fine and was going to come out of the game no matter what.
Just a bruise on Kris Bryant's hand/wrist, per Ross. They were going to pitch run regardless. #Cubs
