Does feel AS good sweeping the Pirates as it would sweeping the Cardinals or Brewers? Oh, probably not. And does it feel AS good sweeping the Pirates when they’re out there just handing you runs left and right? Oh, probably not.
But does it still feel damn good? OF COURSE! It’s a SWEEP! And the Cubs are HOT! It ALL feels good!
Kris Bryant kicked things off with a homer in this one, joined by Patrick Wisdom (yup, Patrick Wisdom) in the homer tally. Javy Báez absolutely stole a run, but I just can’t even tell you about the play because it requires watching if you haven’t seen it yet. (Bonus, here’s the Pirates broadcast team calling it.) The Cubs got an insurance run late on a Bryant grounder that the Pirates flubbed, and it was enough to hold up against the three solo dingers Kyle Hendricks gave up.
Shouts to the bullpen, which remains un-score-on-able. That now five games over .500 for the Cubs, easily a season high. Sweeping this series – yes, even against the Pirates – is all the more impressive given all the players the Cubs are missing. Well done.
