Chicago Cubs

I’ll take a salvage job. That was a really tough series, and while you’re never happy about a 3-1 series loss, a sweep was certainly possible. So, yeah. Salvage job accepted.

Right now, the Cubs can score seemingly only when they hit a dinger. Thankfully, tonight’s dinger was the only damage in the game on either side. So thank you, Javy Báez, for crushing one in the first, and then helping make it stand up with some stellar defensive work tonight.

Kyle Hendricks started out slowly, leaving some pitches up, working through traffic and trouble, issuing walks, and flying up the pitch count and such. But then a switch flipped with two on and none out in the 4th, and he absolutely cruised for the next nine straight outs. Given where things started, you were thrilled to see him get through six innings. And scoreless? Suddenly it was a brilliant start. Very well done from Hendricks.

With a very rested bullpen and a lead, David Ross could do what he likes to do best (nothing wrong with it!) and go Chafin-Tepera-Kimbrel to finish things off. You love when it works out that way.
