The back-to-back Kris Bryant-Anthony Rizzo homers kicked things off in just the right way, even if it immediately made you wonder if it was the last time you’d ever see that. David Bote also homered for the rest of the Cubs’ scoring, which certainly had to feel good upon his return from a long IL trip.
It was a MUST-WIN game today, what with Craig Kimbrel coming into a two-on, two-out situation in the 9th in a four-run game. At least the many scouts in attendance got to see him get that one (1) fly out.
Trevor Williams was fantastic, even in light of the woeful Diamondbacks lineup, and the bullpen – again, spotlighting certain guys – held things down until Dillon Maples wasn’t able to finish things off in the 9th, necessitating Kimbrel’s entry.
