The Cubs may be trying to avoid their first 12-game losing streak since 2012, but that’s out of my mind tonight. Not only do losses not really matter at the moment, but also Justin Steele is set to make the second big league start of his career.
His first start against the Brewers went well enough, with a ton of ground balls early, as I recall. But tonight, he gets a tough matchup against one of the better run producing teams in MLB in one of the more hitter friendly parks, to boot. With that said, the Reds have been far less effective this season against lefties (86 wRC+, 27th in MLB) than righties (109 wRC+, 5th) in MLB), but still … Cubs pitchers just always seem to struggle in that park.
The Cubs will face a lefty, themselves, in Wade Miley.
