BASEBALL. IS. BACK.
For a while there, I wasn’t sure if the next Cubs game (Spring Training or otherwise) was going to be in March or May. But MLB and the Players Union got together on a new CBA in just enough time to preserve a full regular season and get Spring Training off the ground in March. For that, I am thankful.
And although the Cactus League schedule has been condensed, the Cubs and White Sox got together and added two extra split-squad games to the schedule today, both of which will be televised!
Kyle Hendricks is starting for the Cubs at Sloan Park, and he’ll be followed up by the Cubs 2021 first round draft pick Jordan Wicks, in what will surely be the preferred contest for most Cubs fans this afternoon. That game will also feature top prospects Pete Crow-Armstrong and Brennen Davis. I’m extremely excited.
The away game isn’t without its draws, however. Specifically, I’m going to try to tune in to see as much of Kevin Made as possible, as well as Nelson Maldonado. I’ve also heard a lot of good stuff about the power of Bryce Ball, so I’ll be trying to watch his at-bats too.
Obviously, there are basically no “regulars” in either lineup, outside of backup catcher Yan Gomes and Hendricks, but baseball is baseball and I’m so glad it’s back. GO CUBS.
