Well, it was nice having Wade Miley around for a few weeks. Get well soon and such.
After missing the first month of the season, Miley is right back on the Injured List with what is being termed a shoulder strain – which means it is muscular in nature, and different from the shoulder inflammation that kept him out to start the season. I can’t decide if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but hopefully he misses the minimum 15 days for a pitcher. Miley, 35, managed just three (mostly good) starts before hitting the IL again.
Taking Miley’s place on the active roster is Mark Leiter, Jr., who has really been riding that up-down shuttle. I tentatively suspect that he will start one of the double-header games tomorrow if he isn’t required today. Leiter, 31, has a 6.57 ERA over 12.1 big league innings this year. He has sometimes looked good in very short bursts, but when asked to go longer than an inning or two, trouble arises.
