In their final matchup with the Cubs of their final season in MLB, Yadier Molina and Albert Pujols are on the bench. It’s over. We made it. Get through today, root for a short October, and we’re done. No more of those two on the mind.
And in the meantime, we have a pretty fun matchup on tap between Marcus Stroman and Miles Mikolas.
The Cardinals roughed Stroman up a couple starts back (5IP, 11H, 5ER, 2BB, 1K), but that was in the middle of an otherwise solid stretch of baseball — he had just held the Brewers to 2 runs over 7.2 innings and kept the Blue Jays to one a start later. Hopefully, he knows what went wrong last time and can tweak that approach this afternoon.
Mikolas has faced the Cubs four times this season, with a rough first outing followed by some success.
@CHC: 5.0 IP, 8H, 4ER, 3BB, 4Ks
vsCHC: 6.0 IP, 4H, 1ER, 11BB, 9Ks
vsCHC: 6.1 IP, 8H, 3ER, 1BB, 6Ks
@CHC: 6.2 IP, 6H, 3ER, 1BB, 3Ks
Overall, that’s just a 4.13 ERA with Cubs batters hitting .277/.314/.415 off Mikolas for the season.
