The following story (and the video you’re about to watch) is just absolutely cracking me up. Perfect remedy for a slow Wednesday morning.
Okay, let me set the stage: Yesterday, Red Sox rookie first baseman Triston Casas, 22, hit his first MLB home run against the Rays in the top of the second inning at Tropicana Field. Here’s a look, in case you missed it.
As is customary for early-career milestones, Casas sought ownership of the ball from the lucky “Rays” fan who caught it (hold that thought). And the Rays obliged sending their mascot, DJ Kitty, to make a deal. Raymond brought ice cream in a helmet and the fan was NOT having it. He wanted more. Which, fair enough.
He had the Rays personnel coming out to sweeten the pot and held out for a much bigger and better package of goodies. But that’s only half of it. Watch this unfold. It will crack you up.
The offer: A bat signed by Triston Casas (a.k.a. “The player who hit it”), a ball signed by Xander Bogaerts, and “somebody else, I don’t remember.”
Those are real quotes. I’m dying. He had know idea what he had, he just knew someone else wanted it. And it turns out, he was actually White Sox fan in disguise!
Just too funny. The fan also said he tried to bring the ball to the Red Sox dugout, himself, but … you know, wasn’t allowed, because obviously: “As I’m walking, police and security come up to me, ‘Where you going?’ ‘To the dugout? I’m giving him his ball back,'” he said. “And they’re like, ‘No, they’ll come up to you.’ So I just waited, and then they came up.”
