This is a once-in-a-lifetime catch if I’ve ever seen one. Maybe multiple lifetimes.
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim got domed by a foul ball straight back into the top of his mask, but the ball went up so perfectly, and his concentration was so incredible, that he tracked the ball down and DOVE TO CATCH IT THEREAFTER:
I can’t get over that. It would be so easy to give up on the play after you survived the foul ball. Shake it off a bit, and move on to the next pitch.
But Heim collected himself quickly enough to be able to locate the very-fortunately-airborne ball, and then caught the dang thing with his bare hand. That’s a play I have never seen before, and might never see again.
What a year it has been for incredible catcher catches.
