A little early drama in tonight’s Cubs-Mets game, with Mets slugger Pete Alonso beefing at Cubs pitcher Adrian Sampson over a foul ball.
Basically, Alonso crushed one down the line, and it hooked just barely foul. It was close enough to be reviewed, and Sampson was pointing that it was foul (to the umpires?). He was emphatic about it, but what pitcher wouldn’t be? And he was right!
Anyway, a pitch later, Sampson walked Alonso, who spiked his bat and started jawing at Sampson on his way to first base:
I’ve gotta believe he was mad about Sampson pointing foul, but maybe some thing was said between the sides as Alonso rounded the bases on the non-homer?
I guess we’ll see if this goes anywhere later in the game …
