That’s four in a row for the scorching hot Chicago Cubs! I will take everything I can find to celebrate, because this season will be over before we know it.
In a lightning fast game at Wrigley Field today, the Cubs beat the Rockies 2-1. Zach McKinstry carried the offense, with his triple and homer accounting for the two runs that won the game.
Marcus Stroman was fantastic over seven innings, limiting any kind of meaningful contact, striking out five, and taking a no-hitter into the 6th. He got 11(!) groundouts to go with those 5 strikeouts. Just exactly what you’d hope to see from him.
Jared Young got his first big league start today, and registered his first big league hit:
Brandon Hughes and Manny Rodriguez pitched the final two innings, and the whole thing was just cruise mode. The game barely lasted two hours! Hey, whatever it takes to get the win. If the other bats are being super aggressive, fine, go get your groundballs!
