Aaron Judge Homered Twice Again, and is Now Just One Shy of 60

I don’t really feel like getting too deeply into the records, because they’ve become so twisted up in the arguments about the Steroid Era. You can decide for yourself how much weight to put on the various home run mile markers.

But I can’t see how any baseball fan wouldn’t see 60 homers in a season, in 2022, as a tremendous, historic accomplishment.

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge is now just ONE homer away from that mark after going deep twice against the Milwaukee Brewers:

Just no-doubters, as Judge does. And if it feels like he has a ton of multi-homer games, he does: per Codify, that is his 11th multi-homer game of the year, which ties Sammy Sosa and Hank Greenberg for the most ever.

If Aaron Judge has another one of those, he’ll tie Roger Maris’s American League home run record at 61. That’s a special one for a lot of folks, and again, I’m not going to argue about what it means or doesn’t. But seeing Judge reach that level this season would be special. Period.

Oh, and also special? Judge is getting close to Triple Crown territory. Nobody is catching him on homers and RBI, and he’s ONE POINT off the batting average lead in the American League (.316, while Luis Arraez is .317).
