They got the power, they got the speed … to be the best in the Cactus League! (And that includes the White Sox).
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Nick Madrigal, 2B
- Ian Happ, LF
- Cody Bellinger, CF
- Eric Hosmer, 1B
- Edwin Rios, 3B
- Luis Torrens, DH
- Mike Tauchman, RF
- Zach McKinstry, SS
- Tucker Barnhart, C
SP: Drew Smyly, LHP
Drew Smyly hasn’t had a great start to the spring, with 5 earned runs on 11 hits (3 homers). But at least he has four strikeouts and no walks ….? No, I kid. Everyone knows Spring Training stats don’t matter, but they ESPECIALLY don’t matter for a veteran like Smyly who’s only goal is to ramp up and stay healthy. He’s not battling for a spot, he’s not out here to prove anything. I really don’t sweat it. By contrast, Adrian Sampson might want to kick it up a notch soon. Hayden Wesneski is lapping him, and for those guys … the results matter a little. They have to.
Nothing special about the lineup today, everyone is out there in spots we’ve seen them this spring. Zach McKinstry (no options), Mike Tauchman, and Edwin Rios are battling for spots, but all three have a pretty good shot at making the team.
