Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Owen Caissie, who is just 20 years old, is the starting right fielder for Team Canada in the World Baseball Classic. It’s not a bad roster by any stretch, so the fact that he’d already been standing out to teammates was impressive. And the fact that he’d already had a run-scoring single today was nice.
But then he did this:
What do I even comment on!?!?
Obviously there’s the massiveness of the shot. Going high off the batter’s eye there at Chase is, what, 430 feet? At least?
Then there’s a bonkers ALL-OUT-SPRINT around the bases. That’s just good fun.
And then, of course, there are Caissie’s minor league mates, in attendance to support their friend, being in awe of the blast he just hit:
Owen Caissie, who was among the youngest players in the Midwest League last year, figures to get the bump to Double-A Tennessee to open this season. There, again, he’ll be one of the youngest players in the Southern League. The power will play in the big leagues, and the bat is very likely to play overall. There is just the matter of continuing to develop the overall skill set at the plate, and the glove in right field. The ceiling there for Caissie is very, very high.
