Hayden Wesneski Has Won a Job in the Chicago Cubs Rotation
With Adrian Sampson optioned to Iowa earlier today, it was all but confirmed that rookie Hayden Wesneski would be named the Chicago Cubs’ fifth starter to open the season. David Ross went ahead and made it official.
Wesneski was outstanding last year in his brief big league debut, and then looked fantastic this spring as he competed for a job. There was no other choice at this point. I can’t wait to see how this young man does.

Note that Ross said Javier Assad is still in the mix for a bullpen job.
