It’s Opening Day! And this afternoon, the Chicago Cubs are hosting the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field for their first game of the 2023 MLB season. Corbin Burnes is on the mound for Milwaukee, coming off an absolutely dominant 2022 campaign. And Marcus Stroman is starting for the Cubs. He didn’t have a particularly productive first season in Chicago last year, but he finished incredibly strong, with a 2.56 ERA over his final 16 starts, featuring a 56.9% groundball rate. Let’s talk about some plays you can run this afternoon on PrizePicks, one of our new partners here at Bleacher Nation.
What is PrizePicks?
In short, PrizePicks is daily fantasy sports made easy. You don’t have to draft a team or play against other people for a tiny chance to win a small piece of the pie. As they put it, it’s just “you against the numbers.”
I’ll walk you through my picks below, but in short, you just sign up (get a deposit match up to $100 using this link) and predict more or less on certain stats between 2 and 6 players of your choice. The more picks you get right, the more money you win.

Yes this is an ad, but I am actually going to be playing today, personally, and here are my picks. Choose to tail me. Or if you think I’m a big dumb, dummy … do the opposite!
0.5 1st Inning Runs Allowed – LESS
It’s cold in Chicago, Marcus Stroman is amped up from the World Baseball Classic, Corbin Burnes is Corbin Burnes, and neither the Cubs nor Brewers lineup is particularly strong this season. I’ll roll the dice on no first inning runs today.
Nico Hoerner 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI – MORE
The Cubs leadoff man and second baseman is healthy and freshly extended. Corbin Burnes is a tough matchup, but Hoerner puts the ball in play a lot. He should also get plenty of chances leading off this afternoon.
Patrick Wisdom 1.5 Strikeouts – MORE
A strikeout prone hitter against a strikeout heavy pitcher on a day when Wisdom’s only job is probably to run into a home run? Yeah. Give me the over on 1.5 strikeouts.
Cody Bellinger 0.5 Total Bases – MORE
Cody Bellinger is FAR from the player he was a few years ago, but he’s another season removed from his injury, he’s got his old stance back, and I liked the way he looked this spring. He just needs to reach base once today for this leg to hit, so I think I’m comfortable taking the over.
PrizePicks Odds and Payout
These four picks gives me a 10x payout on my $100 bet today. So I can win $1,00 if these hit. But if you aren’t feeling froggy on all of them, PrizePicks also gives us the choice to reduce your odds if 2 out of 3 hit. I like these though, so I’m rolling the dice on all three hitting.
Have fun and tail me! Let’s win together.
