Cubs vs Mariners: Pitching Matchups, Injuries, Broadcast Info
The Chicago Cubs (4-4) are .500 on the season, coming up short of their first series sweep with a somewhat sloppy loss to the Rangers on Easter Sunday.
Generally speaking though, the Cubs are playing like a true-talent .500 team right now (you can decide if that’s good or bad), mixing in a few dominant pitching and offensive performances with some periods of rougher defensive play and quiet afternoons at the plate. There’s clearly some talent here, but they’ll have to tighten up the defense if they want to build any sort of momentum. It hasn’t been as clean as you’d want/expect.
That said, Marcus Stroman has been particularly good so far, having not allowed an earned run yet through his first two starts, but the Mariners can match that with Luis Castillo, who also hasn’t allowed a run. Both righties will go in this series, but not against each other. The other two Cubs starters in this series, Hayden Wesneski and Drew Smyly, had mixed first outings, so they’ll be looking to get right and get their season going.
The Mariners (4-6) are below .500 at the moment, but they’re a pretty good team. This won’t be an easy series, and it actually kicks off a pretty tough 16-game stretch that goes Mariners (3), Dodgers (3), A’s (3) Dodgers (4), Padres (3). The Cubs have off-days this Thursday the 13th and Monday the 24th. The Cubs should be getting Seiya Suzuki back soon, but it’s not quite clear if it’ll be at home against the Mariners this week or on the road against the Dodgers this weekend.
