Yan Gomes has long been a perfectly fine offensive catcher. It wasn’t what he was known for – the superlative work with pitchers and the glove are the things – but he generally wasn’t going to be a pitcher at the plate. At a career 90 wRC+, he was just a touch better than average for a catcher, actually.
