Cubs vs Marlins — Exactly one week ago today, the Chicago Cubs began a series against these very Marlins in Miami with four more wins than they had losses. If you had told me then, exactly one week later, we’d be heading to Wrigley Field with Matt Mervis in tow, I’d have thought I’d feel GREAT.
I don’t feel all that great.
Unfortunately, the Cubs were promptly swept by the Marlins before losing three out of four to the Nationals, moving a game below .500 for the year. Five of those seven losses were by just one run, but they all count the same in the standings, and that sucks. On the bright side, the Cubs have two of their most locked-in starting pitchers going this weekend, Justin Steele and Drew Smyly, and a shiny new toy (Matt Mervis) to debut against three straight right-handed Marlins pitchers.
Unfortunately, all three Marlins starters have reverse or neutral lefty/righty splits, especially today’s righty, Edward Cabrera. Oh, well.
I’m going to the game tomorrow, but I’m sitting in the rooftops for the first time in over a decade. Now that I think about it, does that count as going to the game? Go Cubs.
