Finally. A good Jameson Taillon start. It took a couple months, but tonight, he did it. The four-seamer was working the way it was supposed to, and he was consistently able to use his newly-shaped slider. I’m sure he would’ve liked to have completed six innings, but getting him that first full and clearly successful start was the right move.
Offensively, the Cubs couldn’t do much on Michael Wacha, whom no team wanted to sign this offseason for some reason. Thankfully, they got a couple runs – including Dansby Swanson’s dinger as part of a big night for him – and then the bullpen made it stand up.
Notable that Julian Merryweather is pretty clearly now among the relievers David Ross trusts for high leverage, by the way. Gotta have more than two guys (the two who followed him).
