Whether you want to attribute it to the new rules, expanded playoffs, surprising competitive teams, good weather, or a confluence of factors, the good news is that MLB attendance continues to show strong signs. I mean, it’s all relative to a past world that doesn’t really exist anymore, but any time attendance is up, that’s great to see.
To that end, we’re seeing attendance that baseball hasn’t enjoyed in the States in eight years:
Certainly, this weekend was buoyed by the 110,000 folks who saw the Cubs and Cardinals for two games in London, but that’s not enough to lift the entire league. And this is a back-to-back weekend situation, not just this weekend.
I like baseball. I like Major League Baseball. Thus, it makes me happy to see strong attendance, especially at a time when people are guarding their discretionary dollars as carefully as ever – MLB needs to keep putting out a product that is worth people spending their hard-earned dollars to come out and see.
