Today, Major League Baseball and the Chicago Cubs announced the team’s schedule for the 2024 regular season.
The Cubs will open on the road on March 28 in Texas, and then return home on April 1 for their home opener against the Rockies. The season wraps on September 29 with the Reds at Wrigley Field.
It’s a really bizarre schedule for the Cubs when you drill down, with the Cubs not playing a single NL Central game until over a month into the season(!). It’s like a college football schedule or something. And then, by the first week of August, the Cubs are entirely finished playing the Cardinals and Brewers.
As we’ve learned this year, it doesn’t do a lot of good trying to project out a year in advance which teams will be “good” and which teams will be “bad,” so I’m not going to get into a strength of schedule discussion (and it’s a more balanced schedule now anyway). I will point out, though, that of the Cubs’ 26 game in September, 16 are at home. Could make for a nice, favorable close to the season if the Cubs are in the race by then.
