Hopefully this is not a significant injury as he tries to get his feet back under him as a possible depth starting pitcher for the Cubs this year.
After maybe kinda shaking out his arm a few times that I saw (triceps? shoulder? lat? upper back? something seemingly around there?), Caleb Kilian left tonight’s game with the trainer. It was hard to see exactly what the issue was, but after the catcher came out to check on Kilian, he signaled for the trainer. A very brief conversation followed, and Kilian departed.
Before the apparent injury, Kilian was doing a bit of what we’ve seen often from him: nasty-looking stuff and good velocity, but not a ton of whiffs and a whole lot of loud contact. He didn’t look bad or anything, just not quite the pitch-by-pitch results you would expect when you watch the stuff. It’s been that way for years now. Guys just seem to see him really well for whatever reason.
Again, hopefully this is not significant and also doesn’t seriously impede his ramp up and continued development. The Cubs may not be leaning on Kilian at this point to be the sixth or seventh starter, but he’s on the 40-man roster and you never know when he might finally turn that corner (or become a bullpen convert). Fingers crossed.
