Anyone remember the absolutely monster home run then-Maryland shortstop Matt Shaw hit early in the 2023 college baseball season?
This one:
507 feet. That’s just such a silly number. Sure, we’re talking metal bats here, and you can see the STIFF wind that was helping that one fly. But still, it was a sign that Shaw had tremendous power, and he’s showing it so far in his professional career with the Cubs.
I reference that homer because Florida’s two-way star Jac Caglianone just topped it by nine feet:
It’s funny that the announcer commented at first that the scoreboard – which is tall as heck! – might be imperiled … only to realize, no, the ball is actually going OVER the scoreboard.
Caglionone, who has also made eight solid starts so far this year on the mound, has top-of-the-scale power, and is putting together an absolutely obscene season at the plate (currently hitting .400/.494/.848 with almost twice as many home runs as strikeouts(!)). That home run came in his seventh straight game with a homer, and he is very likely to go within the top five picks in the upcoming MLB Draft. So don’t get your hopes up, Cubs fans.
