Cubs Farm Report

Kevin Alcántara hit his first home run of the season for the Tennessee Smokies last night, and Owen Caissie hit his first Triple-A home run for the Iowa Cubs as Iowa and Tennessee secured victories. The same can’t be said for South Bend and Myrtle Beach, as they surrendered a combined 36 runs in losing efforts. That and more in today’s Cubs Farm Report.

Cubs Farm Report | April 18, 2024

Triple-A Iowa Cubs (11-6)

The Iowa Cubs secured a 4-3 victory against the Louisville Bats at Principal Park. Owen Caissie, the Cubs’ No. 3 prospect, hit his first Triple-A home run in the fifth inning. Louisville took an early 1-0 lead, but Iowa tied the game in the third inning. Caissie’s home run put the Cubs ahead 2-1 in the fifth, and they extended their lead to 4-1 in the sixth with a two-run double from Matt Mervis. Although the Bats narrowed the gap to 4-3 in the eighth inning with a two-run homer from P.J. Higgins, strong pitching from Chris Clarke and Carl Edwards Jr. secured the win for Iowa.

Note: Today’s Iowa Cubs game has been postponed due to rain and will be made up on Friday. Iowa and Louisville will play two seven-inning games in a doubleheader.
